Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find some of the most asked questions about treatment. If, however, you do not find the question YOU would like to ask, please go to our Contact Page and complete the form there. We'll do our best to answer as soon as possible.

  1. IS COUNSELNG FOR ME?

The easy answer is YES! I believe that counseling is for everyone.

  2. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY FIRST SESSION?

The very first session is different than any other session because I have to get a lot of information/paperwork from you to discuss how I keep your information and records confidential.
This first session is more like an in-depth consultation, where I go into more detail about what to expect from counseling, and you and I both take some time to get to know each other and learn what has led you to begin counseling. We also will talk about your goals for our work together, and you can ask me any questions you may have about the therapy process or what it is like working with me.
You can save time during the first session if you download and fill out your initial paper work from our downloads page.

  3. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO MOVE OR CANCEL AN APPOINTMENT?

I completely understand that things come up, therefore have a 24 hour cancellation policy. If something were to come up and you are not able to make it to your appointment, please call 319-239-5489 to cancel or reschedule. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice of your appointment, you will be charged half of your session fee.

  4. WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?

I accept cash, personal check, money order and all major credit cards. I am also able to provide you with a SuperBill to submit to your insurance company. If you do intend to submit to insurance, please NOTIFY me asap so that I can ensure proper documentation from the beginning). I encourage clients to speak with their insurance company directly about reimbursement options.

  5. WILL MY SESSION BE CONFIDENTIAL?

ABSOLUTELY! Confidentiality is one of the cornerstones of therapy. Knowing that you can say anything in your session and it will remain in the room helps you feel safe and builds trust. For this reason, all therapists are legally and ethically bound to keep their sessions confidential. However, there are a few limitations to this rule. For example, if I have reason to believe that you are a danger to yourself or others, I must break that confidence in order to make sure that you and/or others are safe. There may also be times when I might need to consult with someone else about your treatment, such as your doctor or psychiatrist, in order to coordinate care or clarify information. In cases such as these, I will get your written permission to release or gather information about you to the other party. The last limitation occurs if I am issued a court order or subpoena or mandated to speak in court.

  6. WHAT IF ME OR MY CHILD IS IN A STATE OF EMERGENCY?

If you or your child is currently experiencing active suicidal thoughts, ideations, or self-harming behaviors, it is my recommendation that you seek a higher level of care than what is offered at Restore Counseling Services. Please call 911 or visit your local ER for immediate assistance.

  7. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?

Feel free to contact me with any other questions that you have! I look forward to hearing from you!
